Tourism plays a vital role in the economic development of a country. Tourism is the second largest foreign exchange earner in India. The tourism industry employs a large number of people, both skilled and unskilled. It promotes national integration and international brotherhood. Tourism industry in India plays a very important role in developing economic and nation’s GDP. “Atithi devo bhava” is our tradition in India that we consider guest as god. Tourism industry of India is economically important and is rapidly, it gives employment to over 20 million people. India’s rich history and its cultural and geographical diversity make its international tourism appeal large and diverse. It presents heritage and cultural tourism along with medical, business, educational and sports tourism. Tourism is one of the major national income of India. According to spending data released by Visa Asia Pacific 2-0—0-6, India has emerged as the fastest growing market in the Asia pacific in terms of international tourist spending. On the economic context, foreign currency in India can be gathered via tourism. For arrival of tourists in a huge amount we have to make India clean and good in sanitation.
When tourists come to India they see very embarrassing scenes which gives a very bad effect on the tourist, Our Prime minister Mr. Narendra Damodardas Modi introduced a campaign “Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan” for make India clean and attract tourists in a clean India. When tourists come to India they mostly buy Handicrafts which makes nearly 2.6% profits in Indian economy. If many tourists come to India, they will book hotel for their stay of course, then they will make some payment that money also makes a contribution of 4% to Indian economy. The most preferred source for tourists for travelling is Trains and buses which gives nearly 1.307 million employment and nearly 572000 tickets booked in a day and the money from this makes contribution about 7% means tourism and transport is linked with each other. When tourist travels by taxi from one place to another they pays toll tax which again makes a contribution of 3% to the economy. The department of Tourism was formed to promote international and domestic tourism in India. It provides infrastructure and carries out publicity campaigns. At last Indian economy makes 50% income from Tourism industry. “Billions of tourists for trillions of wealth”.
