Writer's Destination Movie Review: Fanney Khan

‘It’s a decent movie and I believe the jaan of the movie is Anil Kapoor.’

Fanney Khan is a 2018 Indian musical comedy film written and directed by debutant Atul Manjrekar. It was jointly produced by the banners T-Series Films, Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra Pictures and Anil Kapoor Films & Communication Network. A remake of the 2002 Belgian film Everybody's Famous!, it follows Kapoor as the titular character, the middle-aged father of a young, aspiring, and overweight teenage girl whom he pushes to be a singer. He kidnaps a famous soloist to make way for his daughter to become a star. (Source:Wikipedia)

The movie starts with the famous song ‘Badan Pe Sitaare’ sung by Sonu Nigam and filmed on Anil Kapoor. It’s a good movie. The plot is good with storyline of the same level. I have found that remake’s standard is always quite lower than the original, so is the case here. But I found this movie quite interesting.

The best thing about this movie is the energy of Anil Kapoor, an evergreen star who is not at all aging. Rajkumar Rao’s acting is wonderful as well and the most surprising thing in the movie was the acting of Aishwarya Rai, she is back again with a new zeal.
Some parts of the movie could be better though they are not bad and there could be fewer songs but as it was a musical comedy film, I am okay with the number of songs. I loved the song ‘Fu Bai Fu’.

Now coming to direction, Atul Manjrekar has done a great job and I loved the cinematography. The frames were wonderful and the setup was also good. Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra is a good film-maker known for some masterpieces in Bollywood and this one is also a decent movie by Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra.

My overall verdict is ‘It’s a decent movie and I believe the jaan of the movie is Anil Kapoor.’

I am going to rate this movie a three out of five.
